WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao police arrested two men on Sunday morning who are suspected of stealing boxes of fireworks from the storage units in Brievengat.
The men broke open two containers on Sunday morning and took off with several boxes in a car. In Jongbloed they transferred the boxes of fireworks into a small truck. That car was later seen by the police on the Gosieweg.
The driver ignored an order from the police to stop, after which a chase took place that ended in Rancho, where the car crashed. The two men then tried to run, but were eventually captured by the police.
It concerns two Curaçao men, aged 31 and 43. They are behind bars for now. The stolen boxes of fireworks have been confiscated by the police. Fireworks are traditionally stored in the powder house on Curaçao.
