WILLEMSTAD - The interest group of bus drivers Sindikato Transporte Uni (STU) wants an emergency meeting with Minister Charles Cooper of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning. The STU hopes to find solutions at the meeting for various matters such as permit policy.
At the members' meeting on Sunday, several problems arose that the bus drivers encountered. The chairman of the STU, Andres Everitz, indicates that many drivers lose their permits. Everitz reports that especially the older drivers lose their licenses.
They want to keep the permits and rent them out so that they can be provided for in their old age. Also young people who have become disabled are often not allowed to keep and rent out their permits. This leaves the drivers without income.
The drivers also believe that applying for a permit takes a lot of time. The members want to discuss the pain points with Cooper.
