Business owners on Curaçao elections: "renew the financial system"

Local | By Correspondent February 5, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - “During these elections we have to focus on cooperation,” says Hans Slier, owner of a hotel on Curaçao. “Put differences aside, see what unites you and look for solutions together. This is the only way to get out of the current crisis.”

No fewer than fifteen parties will participate in the coming elections. Slier is confident that Curaçao can get out of the current financial crisis, provided the political parties work together and do not get in each other's hair.

“Investments must be made in education, in health care, but also in a favorable investment climate for business owners. Government taxes ultimately come from corporate income,” says Slier.

Digitization

These entrepreneurs would prefer to see the new government implement financial restructuring. Clayton Lasten, co-owner of a hotel and the street party "Kaya Kaya": “We as entrepreneurs would be helped if the financial system was renewed. For example, that we can make more use of digital payments, obtain a permit faster and a loan more easily.”

March 19 Curaçao will go to the polls again. Then the elections for the Parliament of Curaçao take place.
