WILLEMSTAD - The Coast Guard helicopter had to go into action twice yesterday to help people in need of medical assistance. The first report came in the morning at the Rescue and Coordination Center (RCC) of the Coast Guard. Two tourists hiking on the Christoffelberg fell several meters from a cliff. The fire brigade, who were on site, reported that it was impossible for the people to climb back up.

After the report of the fire brigade, the Coast Guard directed their helicopter to the Christoffelberg to assist the people. The tourists, a man and a woman, who were injured as a result of the fall, were taken by helicopter to the coastguard base at Hato airport. An ambulance was waiting there to take them to the hospital where they received medical treatment.
Around noon, the Coast Guard received another report for a medical evacuation. This time it was a tourist on Klein Curaçao. The man had fallen and sustained a knee injury. The reporter indicated that the 55-year-old man needed assistance from the coastguard helicopter to be transported to the hospital. After the report, the RCC sent the helicopter to Klein Curaçao to pick up the man and fly to Hato where an ambulance was waiting to transport him to the hospital.
