Cabinet wants Erasmus grant for Caribbean students

Local | By Correspondent February 22, 2022

THE HAGUE - Dutch parties PvdA and D66 argued for a kind of Erasmus grant for students in the kingdom. They can now travel to many countries with an Erasmus grant from the European Union, but not from the islands to the Netherlands or vice versa.

The Dutch Minister of Education Robertus Dijkgraaf had his reservations: the capacity of higher education on the islands is limited. There is a special steering group 'study success for Caribbean students', which advises the four ministers of education within the kingdom.

Dijkgraaf will bring the 'Kingdom Mobility Program' to the attention of that steering group. An Erasmus grant supports students with an allowance for travel and accommodation costs.
