WILLEMSTAD - Independent Member of Parliament Rennox Calmes has withdrawn his support from the current government. He also wanted to provide a new minister of Health, Environment, and Nature in exchange for his support. Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath indicated that his government had the support of 11 parliamentarians, and thus the support of the independent MP Calmes.
Rhuggenaath has asked the outgoing minister, Suzanne Camelia-Römer to stay on for another week for a smooth transfer. But according to Calmes, this was not the deal he had with the Prime Minister and that he had to hear about it through the media. He simply does not want to see Camelia-Römer as a minister and would like to appoint someone else, someone younger and more energetic who could get things done for the future of the nation.
Calmes already indicated to the governor that he will not support the government anymore. Now the coalition has the support of 10 Members of Parliament since they are still waiting for Marilyn Alcala-Wallé to decide whether she will be sworn in or not. She is still waiting on the public prosecution to announce if she will be prosecuted or not.
