WILLEMSTAD - The captain of the Miss Ann boat died yesterday afternoon in a diving accident near Klein Curaçao. The coast guard confirmed this to Curaçao Chronicle. The resuscitation did not help.
The captain was reported missing around 2 in the afternoon while diving. Soon after, the 35-year-old man was taken unconscious from the water. Resuscitation attempts by bystanders and later by the Coast Guard were of no avail.
The Coast Guard arrived on the scene by helicopter and transported the man's body to Hato Airport after the resuscitation. Police and Coast Guard could not yet provide further details.
Last night, the Citizens Rescue Organization (CITRCO) wrote on their social media that it is a “black page in our sailors’ life!”
“As a CITRO sea rescue organization, we would like to show Solange, Jonathan, and other families of Miss Ann boat trips our immense support at this very sad moment, now that we heard today that Niko van der Vlies has died during a trip to Klein Curacao.”
