WILLEMSTAD - Carine Jänsch was recently elected as the new president of the Curaçao Bar Association (OvA). In this position she succeeds Rogier van den Heuvel, who has been president for five years.

Jänsch studied Dutch law at the University of Amsterdam, was sworn in as a lawyer in Amsterdam in 1996 and has been a lawyer in Curaçao since 2000. She is a partner at Ox & Wolf.

In a short speech after taking office, Jänsch emphasized, among other things, the accessibility of lawyers for those seeking justice, which is under pressure at this time from Covid measures.

"An example of this is the situation in the SDKK prison, where less space is now available for discussions with detainees." "Furthermore, the more limited access to the courthouse" Kas di Korte "has led to the necessity of partial digital litigation. These subjects require special attention from the board of the Bar Association.”

In addition, the OvA board hopes for a speedy introduction of the new Lawyers National Ordinance, which has been ready for some time. "The current Lawyers National Ordinance dates from 1959 and is in dire need of replacement," said the new dean.

Secretary Karina Keizer stepped down as a board member and was succeeded by Tiffany de Palm. De Palm grew up in Curaçao, obtained her master's degree in law from Tilburg University and has worked as a lawyer at VanEps Kunneman Van-Doorne since 2015.

Marie-José Eisden of the law firm True Lawyers and Kimberley de l'Isle of KDL Legal have stayed on as board members in the positions of vice president and treasurer respectively. The Curaçao OvA has over 200 members.
