Cathedral of Thorns wins the CODA award

Local | By Correspondent September 2, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao is proud to share with the world that the Cathedral of Thorns, created by using 25 million spiky thorns, has won the CODA award 2020 in the Landscape category.

The CODA award celebrates design projects that most successfully integrate commissioned art into interior, architectural, or public spaces.

Herman van Bergen started work on this project eight years ago in the Landhuis Bloemhof garden. The CODA award jury praised the Cathedral of Thorns for the way Van Bergen and his volunteers “created an actual building out of native shrubs, and in the process, honored Mother Nature and the Free Spirit.”

“Landhuis Bloemhof congratulates Herman van Bergen and his team with this spectacular achievement. And we are grateful and happy that through his vision and perseverance Curaçao will also be promoted internationally.”
