CBCS: Antillean guilder survives through Dutch support

Local | By Correspondent July 29, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The fixed exchange rate between the guilder and the dollar remains stable, thanks to the support of the Netherlands. This can be derived from the words of Dr. José Jardim, Interim President of the Central Bank.

The bank's import coverage has even increased due to liquidity support from the Netherlands. It is now above the standard of three months. Curaçao can therefore continue to import.

Normally it is the tourists who bring dollars and euros in the state’s treasury. Curaçao does not import much at the moment because of the crisis and the uncertainty on the island whether the country will survive this crisis.
