CBS starts the National Accounts survey for the 2018 financial year (press release)

Local | By Correspondent August 16, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) has started the National Accounts survey for the 2018 financial year.

The purpose of this research is to collect business data from financial companies, non-financial companies, governmental corporations, foundations, associations and sole traders. The information collected is consolidated with administrative data from other sources and this results in an overview of the economic development of Curaçao.

This information is usually obtained from the annual accounts of a company, but in small one-man businesses an estimate is made based on daily or weekly sales.

Almost 1,450 companies participate in this annual survey. Large companies, these are companies with 10 employees or more, participate every year. A sample is taken of companies with fewer than 10 employees (small companies), after which the financial figures have to be provided to CBS for four consecutive years. After this, other (small) companies are selected to participate.

The information from the annual survey is used to fill in part of the National Accounts of Curaçao. These National Accounts represent the economic transactions between the sectors that took place in the national economy in a given year.

The information obtained from the National Accounts survey is also used to describe the results of this survey, or to analyze certain parts of the economy, such as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

As it concerns final annual figures for the past financial year (2018), information from this survey will only be available in the second half of 2020.

The results and analyzes of the survey will appear in the statistical magazine of the CBS.

CBS wants to thank all companies for their cooperation in this research.
