WILLEMSTAD - The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) is in the process of selling its shares in Banco di Caribe. There have been rumors about this before, but now it is written in black and white in a recent judgment in the possession of the local Dutch newspaper Antilliaans Dagblad which reported about this today.
Banco di Caribe is a subsidiary of Ennia, owned by the American Hushang Ansary. In 2018, the CBCS had to intervene with the insurer and withdrew the license of Ennia Leven, Zorg en Schade. An emergency regulation was announced for the company, the newspaper explains.
Since that time, the Central Bank has been trying to make the Ennia group creditworthy and healthy again. The CBCS is also allowed to sell assets of Ennia, according to the judgment. Such as the subsidiary Banco di Caribe, which is incidentally a profitable bank.
