WILLEMSTAD - Consumers in Curaçao can find the most affordable groceries at Centrum Mahaai and Centrum Piscadera, according to research by Fundashon pa Konsumidó, the Consumer Association. Both supermarkets provide the widest selection of products at the lowest prices, making them the best choice for those seeking affordable meats, fruits, and vegetables.
From October 21 to 30, Fundashon pa Konsumidó visited fifteen supermarkets across the island to compare the prices of 98 products. The results show that both supermarkets emerged as the cheapest options, offering 27 products at the lowest prices, including popular items like flank steak, beef liver, oxtail, chicken wings, and various vegetables and fruits. Mangusa Rio Canario and Mangusa Hypermarket followed closely, each with 19 affordable products, while Esperamos offered 18 items at the lowest price.
The research also indicates that Centrum Mahaai and Centrum Piscadera are not only the cheapest but also the best-stocked supermarkets, each having 82 of the 98 products available. Esperamos and Bon Bini Supermarket follow with 73 and 70 products, respectively.
Additionally, Fundashon pa Konsumidó noted significant price differences among supermarkets for the same products, influenced by factors such as brand, country of origin, and quality.
