Chamber of Commerce proposes elimination of dismissal permit

Local | By Correspondent May 16, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - The Chamber of Commerce wants to eliminate the dismissal permit for all employees who earn at least 150 percent of the minimum wage. At the same time, they want to introduce a Labor Chamber at the court of justice where labor matters are dealt with via fast-track law.

The Chamber of Commerce says that it does not want to spare "sacred cows". Such sacred cows are the dismissal law and the requirement of a dismissal permit. Countless local and international experts recommended more flexible labor legislation.

However, that never happened, partly because the unions immediately go into action and call the employees to go on strike.

Now the Chamber of Commerce is coming up with it again, but this time the relaxation is being linked to the level of income, namely at least one and a half times the minimum wage of almost 1,623 guilders as of January 1, 2019. That amounts to around 2,435 guilders. For everyone who earns that or more, the required dismissal permit should disappear according to the Chamber of Commerce.
