Chamber of Commerce: “too many rules for tourists”

Local | By Correspondent May 31, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Billy Jonckheer makes an appeal to the government of Curaçao. According to Jonckheer, the island has too many rules that incoming passengers must comply with and tourists have to fill out too many forms before they can come to the island. He hopes that the government will announce measures today to alleviate this.

Outgoing Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath had announced earlier today that the corona measures would be relaxed. According to Jonckheer, a passenger who wants to fly to Curaçao must first complete the immigration form, then take a PCR test before departure and finally do an antigen test in Curaçao. That's a lot and, given the low number of infections in recent times, unnecessary, says Jonckheer.

He says that Curaçao is pricing itself out of the tourist market with the regulations. Travelers must also be able to show everything on paper if they want to fly, while other destinations also accept digital data on the phone.
