CHATA CEO: "Open Curaçao for 20,000 visitors"

Local | By Correspondent September 18, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - According to director of the Curaçao Hotel and Tourism Association (CHATA) Miles Mercera, Curaçao must open the borders to 20,000 visitors per month as soon as possible. Currently, 10,000 visitors per month are allowed in due to the corona threat. But many hotels have an occupancy rate of less than 20 percent. "If we want to save tourism, we have to open the borders further," says the CHATA director.

Mercera emphasizes that tourism is an important economic pillar for Curaçao. And that 2019 was a good tourism year. But it is now important that hotels can continue to exist. And more tourists are needed for that.
