WILLEMSTAD - Hans Slier, owner and CEO of Papagayo Beach Hotel and Papagayo Beach Resort is pleased that he was re-elected as CHATA president, even though he was the only candidate.
Unemployment on Curacao is high, and expectations are high in various sectors. If the Isla Refinery eventually closes, the staff will end up on the street and the reasoning is then that whoever is trained and trained to work at the refinery does not fit into the hotel sector.
Slier, however, sees that very differently. The CHATA president believes that the refinery workers can be employed in the tourism sector which is booming now.
