Christmas Groceries Up to 70 Guilders More Expensive This Year, Consumer Foundation Finds

Local | By Correspondent December 12, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – Christmas shopping could cost households up to 70 guilders more this year, depending on where they buy their holiday essentials. That is the conclusion of a new price survey by the Fundashon pa Konsumidó, which compared the prices of 129 popular holiday products across fifteen supermarkets on the island.

The study assessed a wide range of seasonal items, including meats, festive breads, beverages, snacks and ingredients typically used during the December holidays.

According to the findings, Bon Bini Supermarket offers the most competitive prices, with 32 of the 129 products being the cheapest in its aisles. Mangusa Hypermarket ranked second with 19 lowest-priced items, while Centrum Mahaai followed in third place with 18 products at the lowest price point.

Largest selection at Centrum Mahaai

While not the cheapest overall, Centrum Mahaai stands out with the broadest assortment. Of the 129 products included in the survey, the supermarket carries 118 items, making it the retailer with the most complete holiday offering.

The foundation emphasized that the comparison focused exclusively on price, not on quality, brand, portion size or weight. This distinction matters, especially for products such as ham, turkey and Christmas bread, which can vary significantly in size and presentation between stores.

The Fundashon pa Konsumidó will continue its monitoring efforts throughout the holiday season to help consumers make informed choices and manage rising household expenses.
