WILLEMSTAD - The business trip to Atlanta is absolutely not a pleasure trip, according to Minister of Economic Development Ruisandro Cijntje of the PNP party. On the contrary, there would be an "intensive program with heavy work". That is what the minister says in response to the Member of Parliament for PAR Steven Croes.
Croes called the business trip with 25 guests, including the Curacao Tourist Board (CTB), journalists and bodyguards, a pleasure trip. Cijntje refuted this by emphasizing that international sport is a strategic option for promotion and that it can bring a lot to Curaçao. The economy minister gave the success of Ajax as an example and how this is a major part of marketing worldwide.
Cijntje also indicated that the bodyguards pay their own costs and that the journalists do not receive any additional compensation for their services. The three reporters who come along will even run the risk of missing the baseball game because of the busy schedule, according to Cijntje.
