WILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Economic Development Ruisandro Cijntje does not think the plans for a new State Building are ideal. The island is already facing financial challenges and a new building is driving high investments.
According to Cijntje, the situation in which the opposition parties are against the construction and the coalition parties in favor makes it extra complicated. He understands that because the Members of Parliament have offices in two different buildings, cooperation between parties is not stimulated.
The minister says that the last option he has heard might be a good alternative. The old Banco di Caribe building in Breedestraat would be merged with the current building. The property across the street could then be disposed of.
