WILLEMSTAD - Rescue organization Citro is having a hard time financially due to the corona pandemic. Due to the measures, the volunteer organization was unable to organize a fundraising campaign in the past two years.
Citro is a maritime rescue organization and helps people in need at sea. Rescue work is carried out day and night thanks to the efforts of volunteers. About forty volunteers are on standby for the actions at sea, including skippers, crew members and technicians. Doctors provide advice to ships by radio and coordinate medical evacuations if necessary. Citro also participates in prevention and information activities.
In a Facebook message, Citro calls on people to sign up as a 'rescuer ashore' and to support the organization financially on a monthly basis. “That is desperately needed, we are having a hard time,” chairman Lusette Verboom indicated.
Fundraising is Citro's main source of income. The organization desperately needs the money to responsibly send two lifeboats and two watercrafts out to sea, among other things.
