Civil servants demand revocation of 12.5% circular, otherwise, action will follow

Local | By Correspondent August 13, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The civil servants' unions want the government to withdraw the circular containing the 12.5% cut on the fringe benefits of civil servants. If the government fails to do so, the unions will take action.

According to the unions, the cut was not established according to the procedures of the National Ordinance Organized Consultation Civil Service Affairs. According to Adrie Williams of civil servants’ union ABVO, a circular relating to the legal position of government employees cannot be unilaterally issued by the government.

The unions wanted to collect signatures from their members in order to file an objection against the government. The willingness to act among the officials appeared to be great and the unions decided to take action. It was not said in what form they will act. The unions will take action to urge the government to withdraw the circular.
