Civil service unions find government measures 'illegal'

Local | By Correspondent August 13, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The adjustment of 12.5 percent to the employment conditions of civil servants is not negotiable for the civil servants’ unions. The unions announced this to Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath in a letter that was handed to him.

The unions held a meeting during working hours this week to inform members of the government's plans. The unions consider Rhuggenaath's intervention illegal. The government adheres to the conditions of the Netherlands to be eligible for financial aid. One of the conditions is a wage cut for civil servants.
