Clarity about parties on Klein-Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent March 2, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The Maritime Authority Curaçao (MAC) today had talks with the captains of charters to Klein Curaçao. During the talks, information was given about overnight stays on the island near Curaçao. The boat owners are happy with the information and have indicated that they will refrain from overnight stays on Klein Curaçao.

Between 50 and 100 people on various boats were caught on the island by the coast guard gathering last weekend. During this enforcement action, the coast guard "had to intervene considerably", Jan Sierhuis, director of MAC indicated.

“It is getting out of control. We have to adhere to the Ships Act rules and the commercial Covid measures,” says Sierhuis.

According to Shalick Clement, spokesperson for the coast guard, the same rules apply in Klein Curaçao as in Curaçao. "We will check more and send out press releases again."

"We have received several reports about parties on Klein Curaçao. Now we can only repeat, communicate, and raise awareness," says Clement.
