THE HAGUE - The Dutch coalition agreement acknowledges that the Caribbean part of the Kingdom is already experiencing the consequences of climate change. The document explicitly refers to coral degradation and flooding as urgent challenges affecting Curaçao and the other islands.
In response, the coalition commits to accelerating the joint climate agenda within the Kingdom and continuing the Nature and Environmental Policy Plan for Caribbean Netherlands. While the plan primarily references Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, the broader climate commitments are framed as Kingdom-wide responsibilities.
The government states that climate adaptation and environmental protection are essential for the long-term sustainability of the Caribbean islands, particularly given their vulnerability to rising sea levels and ecosystem damage.
