Closed council chamber session Martina case

Local | By Correspondent August 14, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - Opposition party Korsou di nos Tur yesterday in a closed council chamber pleaded again to prosecute former Minister of Economic Development Dr. Steven Martina.

The Public Prosecution (OM) had dismissed the case and the party of Amparo dos Santos stood firm by their decision to file a complaint against the former minister. Martina is said to have abused his position to favor his old employer.

Because it is a case behind closed doors, it is not yet known whether the ruling will also be made public.

The representatives of the party declared after the closed session that they are satisfied with the meeting and that they had the opportunity to present their case. They are sure that Dr. Martina acted against the law even during the screening process. During this process, the candidate minister should indicate if they have sufficiently distanced themselves from any business that could cause a conflict of interest. This was not done by Dr. Martina.

According to Korsou di nos Tur, the judge will rule in about 6 weeks.
