CMC cancels elective surgeries due to staff shortage

Local | By Correspondent January 10, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The Curacao Medical Center (CMC) is canceling all elective surgeries for the time being. The hospital is under great pressure due to a staff shortage and the maximum capacity in the intensive care unit.

Nearly two hundred healthcare workers are absent due to Covid-19, absenteeism, or quarantine. The CMC is forced to cancel elective surgeries to guarantee responsible patient care. “As soon as sufficient staff are back at work and the situation stabilizes, the hospital will announce the continuation of operations,” the management said.

Acute and essential operations will continue. Clinical appointments and other treatments are also resumed. The CMC will contact all patients whose surgeries have been cancelled.
