WILLEMSTAD - The coast guard conducted a medical evacuation on Sunday after an attack by a swarm of bees. Two hikers in the Jan Thiel area therefore had to be evacuated.

Sunday morning the Rescue and Coordination Center (RCC) of the Coast Guard received the report from the fire brigade. The patrol helicopter's assistance was requested for a medical evacuation.

Two people were walking in the vicinity of Papagayo on Jan Thiel. They were attacked there by a swarm of bees. The man suffered a severe allergic reaction from the bee stings and had to be rushed to Curacao Medical Center (CMC). The fire brigade arrived quickly, but could not reach the man. Then the coast guard was called in.

The helicopter has hoisted the man on board and transferred him to the coast guard support point Hato, where he was brought to the CMC in stable condition by the waiting ambulance.
