WILLEMSTAD – On Tuesday evening, December 30, the Maritime Operations Center (MOC) of the Caribbean Coast Guard received an emergency call from a cruise ship that had just departed from Curaçao, requesting urgent medical assistance for a crew member who had sustained multiple injuries while performing work on board.

According to the Coast Guard, the injured crew member suffered various bodily injuries during operations on the vessel. Following the report, MOC personnel immediately contacted the on-call physician of CITRO, who determined that the patient required prompt medical treatment at the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC).

In response, the Coast Guard swiftly activated its helicopter team and set course for the cruise ship, which at the time was still located within Curaçao’s territorial waters. The injured crew member was safely airlifted from the vessel and transported by helicopter to Hato, Curaçao.

Upon arrival, ambulance personnel were standing by to transfer the patient to the Curaçao Medical Center, where he was admitted for further medical treatment. The Coast Guard emphasized that the rapid coordination between the MOC, medical services, and the helicopter crew ensured a timely evacuation and access to specialized care.
