Local | By Correspondent February 23, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The Caribbean Coast Guard is looking for young people from Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, Saba and St. Eustatius who want to work for the Coast Guard.

A call from the Coastguard states that young people can register for the Basic Coastguard Training Course (BOK). The Coast Guard often says it needs good and motivated personnel. Both as a coastguard, but also in the support functions and with the staff.

Theoretical and practical modules are offered during the training. The first part of the BOK mainly consists of mental and physical training, with team building and social skills as an important part. The first four weeks of the training will also take place in the evenings and on weekends. In the following period, the subjects of shooting, self-defense, sports, and the theory of customs officer for coastguard personnel are followed. Work is also being done on the Metal Sharks and Cutters, the ships of the Coast Guard.

The training lasts one year and takes place in Curaçao. To complete the training, students receive a coastguard certificate of competence and a recognized SBO-2 level diploma BAVPOL (Special Officer of Police).

Young people between the ages of 18 and 25 can apply via the website www.kustwacht.org.
