WILLEMSTAD - The Maritime Operations Center (MOC) of the Coast Guard launched an emergency search-and-recovery mission Wednesday afternoon after receiving a report from the police about a body floating at sea near Rif, close to the Megapier. The alert was triggered when passengers aboard a cruise ship noticed what appeared to be a lifeless body in the water and immediately informed authorities.
Upon receiving the call, the MOC quickly activated a Coast Guard helicopter crew, which departed for the location without delay. The crew successfully recovered the body and transported it to the Coast Guard station at Hato.
The remains were then handed over to the police, who have now taken over the investigation to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have not yet released further details.
