WILLEMSTAD - Remarks recently made by the Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie about the "responsible integration" of undocumented migrants has led to much uncertainty. This is according to Ieteke Witteveen on behalf of Human Rights Defense Curacao.
Girigorie said that since last year, a plan has been worked on to have some of the undocumented migrants integrate in Curaçao under certain conditions. But according to Witteveen, there are still so many questions about the plans that many Venezuelans living without papers in Curaçao have become restless. She wants the minister to provide clarity and thus restore peace to the undocumented.
At the same time, Witteveen says she hopes that Girigorie's plan actually has substance and is not just a political stunt. According to the director of Human Rights Defense Curacao, Curaçao can make good use of the talents and powers of bona fide and productive migrants. Without making a distinction according to social class, color, or gender.
