WILLEMSTAD - The construction of a breakwater at Pietermaai is causing turbid water along the coast. This is evident from images circulating on social media. Scuba Lodge announced in March that it had received the permit for the construction of the breakwater.
Scuba Lodge previously said there was little coral around the breakwater area and adequate measures are being taken to "mitigate or reverse" the environmental impact. Still, a lot of waste seems to be visible in the water off the coast.
The purpose of the breakwater is to protect Scuba Lodge's twelve properties from seawater and restore historic patrol trails.
