WILLEMSTAD – Consumer prices in Curaçao fell slightly in November 2025, while annual inflation edged up, according to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
The overall price level declined by 0.1 percent in November compared to October 2025. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) stood at 105.1 in November, down marginally from 105.2 the previous month.
Despite the monthly decline, annual inflation increased to 1.8 percent in November, representing a rise of 0.1 percentage points compared to October.
Monthly price changes
Price increases were recorded in three spending categories during November. Food prices rose by 0.2 percent, while recreation and culture also increased by 0.2 percent. The category “Other goods and services” showed the largest increase at 0.3 percent.
At the same time, several categories recorded price declines. The largest decrease was seen in household furnishings and equipment, which fell by 0.8 percent. Housing-related costs dropped by 0.3 percent, as did prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Healthcare costs declined by 0.2 percent, while clothing and footwear, as well as transport and communication, each fell by 0.1 percent.
Inflation over the longer term
Inflation reflects the loss of purchasing power over time due to rising consumer prices. It is commonly used as an indicator for adjusting wages, pensions, social benefits, and the minimum wage.
The annual inflation rate is calculated by comparing the 12-month average CPI with that of the same period one year earlier. Over the twelve-month period ending in November 2025, consumer prices increased by an average of 1.8 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
The 12-month average CPI rose from 102.6 in November 2024 to 104.5 in November 2025, indicating a continued but moderate increase in the cost of living on the island.
While the slight monthly decline suggests some easing of price pressures, the upward movement in annual inflation shows that household expenses remain higher than a year ago.
