Contradictory statements in Boechi case emerge during preliminary hearing

Local | By Correspondent July 3, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - The two men accused of the murder of the well-known rapper Boechi have presented conflicting statements during the preliminary hearing held on Friday. The discrepancies in their testimonies have raised questions about their involvement in the crime. Notably, the driver of the getaway car expressed remorse for his role in the incident, while his co-defendant, Churendi C., claimed he would not have assisted if he had known about the planned murder.

Churendi C. argued that his intention was solely to participate in the theft of the rapper's expensive chain, unaware of any violent intentions. He expressed regret and emphasized that he would not have agreed to assist had he been aware of the impending murder. These statements elicited a swift response from his co-defendant, Chris Z., who dismissed Churendi C.'s claims as fabrications and maintained his innocence.

The contradictory accounts have complicated the ongoing investigation and added complexity to the case. The prosecution will need to carefully assess the statements and gather additional evidence to establish the truth behind the events leading to Boechi's tragic death. The case will proceed to a substantive hearing on October 27th, during which more details are expected to emerge.

In the meantime, Chris Z. has opted to remain in custody in Curaçao, pending further developments in the case. Churendi C., on the other hand, has returned to the prison facility on Bonaire after the preliminary hearing. The court will continue its examination of the evidence and testimonies to determine the extent of each suspect's involvement in the murder.
