CORC BV wants to meet with parliament

Local | By Correspondent July 23, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Oil Refinery Complex (CORC) BV wants an emergency meeting with parliament and has submitted a request to the chairman for this. The intended operator of the refinery says it has encountered many obstacles that delay the start of the takeover.

With the visit, CORC would like to get to know the Members of Parliament and inform them about the ongoing process. The company is struggling with setbacks, including the loss of Brazilian partner Roberto Viana. Initially, the company was supposed to take over the CRU staff before June 30, but has not been able to do so.

Earlier this week, CRU announced that it will close its doors for good at the end of September. Parent company Curaçao Refinery (RdK) has 8 million guilders per month in personnel expenses and cannot sustain the salary costs of the refinery personnel for too long. A redundancy scheme has been offered to the employees. A dismissal permit is requested for employees who do not agree with this. RdK hopes that a final agreement has been reached with future operator CORC BV before the end of September, so that the staff can still count on work in the long term.
