WILLEMSTAD - Corona self-tests may only be sold in Curaçao if the tests are registered as medicine. The importer must submit a request to the Medicines Registration Commission for this.
Inspector Joram Parabirsing informed all pharmacists and wholesalers of this in a letter. “By local law, the self-tests are unregistered drugs,” said Parabirsing. It is not allowed to sell, supply, trade, or stock unregistered medicines.
Wholesalers and importers must submit a request to the Medicines Registration Commission to transport corona self-tests. Director of pharmacy group Botika di Servisio, Bram Niessink, indicates that he finds it strange that an entire registration process has to take place in Curaçao, while in the European Union and the United States a test can be obtained at every gas station.
“Corona self-tests are not considered an official test in Curaçao,” said inspector Parabirsing. Since April, it is no longer possible to get a corona self-test in the store.
