WILLEMSTAD - The Council of State in the Netherlands has agreed with the government of Curaçao in its objection to the imposition of a financial instruction by the Kingdom Council of Ministers.
On July 12, 2019, Curaçao was given an instruction because the country would not have complied with the budget rules. The designation was imposed on the advice of the Financial Supervision Board, the CFT.
In August 2019, the government appealed the financial instruction. The Council of State has stated in a very extensive statement why Curaçao's objection is justified. According to the Council, for example, it cannot be proven that the island has not complied with the budget rules.
The Council's explanation has now become public.
The Netherlands and Curaçao have now concluded an agreement on financial support for the next six years. The Rhuggenaath government has always maintained that the financial instruction was incorrect because the island has done as much as possible to get a balanced budget.
