COVID costs community 4 million more than previous year

Local | By Correspondent January 4, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The COVID-19 pandemic has cost the community more than 20 million guilders last year. This is according to the director of the Social Insurance Bank Philip Martis. The SVB paid that amount as wages to people who were unable to work due to illness.

In 2020, the amount was about 4 million guilders less. The insurer sees the number of sick reports by Omicron increasing considerably and is also alert to false reports. Infected people must show a positive test result from the Department of Public Health and retest after 4 days. As of this week, employees must notify the SVB online if you they are ill. They no longer have to go to the doctor for this.
