WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao government will definitively stop providing Covid support to citizens from January 1, 2022. The Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW) previously announced that the aid program would be terminated due to the lack of financial resources. The government had decided to do so because there is no promise from the Netherlands that Curaçao will still receive liquidity support for the last quarter of the year.
After a thorough investigation, the Ministry of Finance was able to release the funds to continue the food aid and salary subsidies until the end of December. After that, the support will stop permanently.
Food aid and salary subsidies had previously been temporarily introduced due to the economic impact of the corona pandemic. As the economy continues to open up and contagion rates are falling, the need for support is diminishing, the government said earlier.
