WILLEMSTAD - Criticism of the travel behavior of ministers and members of parliament is growing. The government has no money to maintain basic facilities, but in the meantime ministers and Members of Parliament spend almost more time in airplanes than in the meeting room.
The budget of Parliament for business trips is 400,000 guilders for the entire year, but that amount has already been exceeded by more than 100,000 guilders halfway through. Moreover, the usefulness and necessity of much travel is under discussion. That certainly applies to the trip that a 25-member delegation will make next week at the expense of the government to attend an Atlanta Braves sponsorship event:
