WILLEMSTAD - The Country of Curaçao wants a new coat of arms. The government has advertised in various newspapers calling for "volunteers with expertise" to form a National Emblem Committee.

The current coat of arms dates from 1964, the government wants a new emblem to unite more residents and create a sense of patriotism and depth of pride, Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath said.

All citizens are given the opportunity to submit a design, after which the committee gives advice to the government based on a public choice.

The seven volunteers on the committee are available approximately 8 hours a week for a period of six months. At least one member must be under the age of 30. To be appointed as a member, you must have extensive knowledge and experience in the social, historical, cultural, economic, marketing, and legal fields and political structure.
