WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao calls on parents to check whether their children have had any vaccinations against measles. The call is a result of the attention for the Scientology cruise ship Freewinds.
Measles was diagnosed on Monday with a female crew member. From that moment on the ship remained in quarantine with three hundred people on the island of Saint Lucia. On Saturday it docked again in the port of Curaçao, the fixed base of the cruise ship.
Anyone who has been on the ship last week must report to the Public Health Department (GGD). According to the government, people on board were checked according to international rules before they can leave the ship. The main objective is to prevent the further spread of measles.
The government in Curaçao says that of the population not only children but also adults who want to get a vaccination again, can easily get one.
