WILLEMSTAD - The Carnival on Curaçao will not take place next year. The government announced this on Saturday. The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The carnival groups on Curaçao recently announced that they are open to a celebration. But the government does not consider it justified to organize an activity in which tens of thousands of people participate.
In addition, the financially bad situation plays a role. Due to the corona crisis, there has been an economic contraction of more than 20 percent. As a result, far fewer companies will sponsor the public festival.
