WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao will not be able to repay the liquidity support provided by the Netherlands in two years' time. It concerns a few hundred million guilders, but Curaçao will still have a high financing requirement in the period 2021-2023.
This is reported by the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS). CBCS bases this on the multi-year budget of the Country of Curaçao. Local funding, too, would be only a temporary option, slowing the pace of economic recovery. CBCS recommends negotiating the terms of the current and future loans regarding the possibility of converting them into a gift or long-term loan.
