WILLEMSTAD - World Clean Up Day 2021 took place on Saturday 18 September. Curaçao, together with 180 other countries, was part of the largest social event in the world.
After several months of preparation, Curaçao Clean Up can confidently say that the day was a success. Across Curaçao, some 2,400 volunteers worked tirelessly to clean at nine locations in different neighborhoods.
To date, 300,000 kilos of waste have been cleaned up.

About World Clean Up Day
The idea started in 2008 in the small northern European country of Estonia. 50,000 people banded together to clean up the entire country in just five hours. On that day, a global bottom-up civic movement was born and it spread like wildfire around the world. The idea appealed to people all over the world; they were inspired to follow suit with the same 'one country, one day' formula.
11 years later, the idea has grown into a worldwide movement with millions of volunteers. The simple act of cleaning has become a force that connects people and groups.
