Curaçao Consumer Interests Foundation pulls the plug

Local | By Correspondent February 28, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao Consumer Interests Foundation is suspending all activities. The foundation announces this via social media.

“After 2 years of working 70 hours a week without salary and without subsidies on solving consumer complaints, "the foundation" is going to suspend all activities for the time being," says Mieke van Os, who runs the one-person foundation. Consumer Interests says that all pending complaints are being handled, but that no new complaints will be accepted for the time being. In the coming period, Van Os will consider how to proceed, in particular about the workload and the continuity of the foundation.

Stichting Consumenten Belangen Curaçao was founded in 2021, because, according to Van Os, the existing Consumer Association 'does very little with consumer complaints', while it does receive a subsidy.
