"Curaçao could be code yellow again from 15 May"

Local | By Correspondent May 10, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Director of the Curaçao Hospitality and Tourism Association (CHATA) Seferina-Rojas assumes that Curaçao will get code yellow again from 15 May. Dutch travelers can then come to Curaçao on holiday with all tranquility. The big question is whether Curaçao can offer enough with the current corona measures.

After CHATA already announced last week that it was dissatisfied with the results of the press conference, the hospitality association made itself heard again this weekend. Seferina-Rojas said that she was "disappointed again".

“Tourists can live with a curfew and a PCR test. But now you still cannot go to the beach or take a private tour by boat or bus. That is really deadly for tourism.”

Every resident of Curaçao is looking forward to the elimination of the plachi di dia tomorrow. But according to hospitality and tourism association CHATA, this is not enough to get the tourists back to the island.

For example, a traveler currently still has to take a total of three corona tests. As far as Seferina-Rojas is concerned, the rapid test should be abolished as soon as possible. “It cannot be sold to tourists. They would rather opt for a destination with two or fewer tests, but certainly not three.”

We now have to wait for the Dutch cabinet. At the moment Curaçao still has code orange, whereby the government urgently advises to travel only when strictly necessary. The cabinet is expected to announce the new travel advice tomorrow. "We expect that Curaçao will get the code yellow," said the CHATA director.
