Curaçao does not only look to the Netherlands for help

Local | By Correspondent April 8, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The Rhuggenaath government is not only looking at the Netherlands for financial assistance. They are also considering taking steps themselves to deal with the problems of the lockdown.

For example, the government is thinking of introducing a solidarity tax on all incomes and an adjustment of the funds in the growth strategy. There must also be a thorough clean up in the civil service and government-owned companies.

The arrival of an independent National Planning Bureau should enable Curaçao to take responsible policy decisions. All measures taken together should bring in an extra 184 million guilders.
