WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao economy is growing again. This is reported by the Central Bureau of Statistics. It reports on the year 2021, in which growth was 4.2 percent.
This number is in stark contrast to the past five years, in which the island's economy only saw a contraction, with the corona year 2020 as the lowest point, with a drop of more than eighteen percent.
The economic recovery started in the second half of 2021. Then the corona measures were phased out and companies were able to move forward at full speed again.
The hospitality industry in particular contributed enormously to the recovery within the tourism product, as did the increase in the number of overnight stays and the associated expenditure by tourists. The South American and European tourist market in particular picked up.
